You know, I usually think of myself as a music type. That's why I was a little surprised to see this list and how many songs I DON'T recognize from the past 25 years. Seriously.
I'm even more stunned that the past 25 years starts in 1982. I thought surely we were talking about the 60's or something. Sheesh! when did I get old?
How many of the songs on the list can you remember?
1982: “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” Love that one
1983: “Every Breath You Take” Will always be known to me as the "stalker song".
1984: “Against All Odds” This was the year I got married. Seems fitting!
1985:”Money For Nothing” Ahh the heyday of MTV.
1986:”That’s What Friends Are For” Check
1987:”I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” Check
1988:”"Don’t Worry, Be Happy” Never did like the song, but I've heard it.
1989:”Like a Prayer” Check
1990:”Ice, Ice Baby” Oh, don't start that thing going around in my head!
1991:”Everything I Do I Do it For You” Loved it then, love it now.
1992:” Jump” I like VanHalen more now than I did then.
1993:”I Will Always Love You” The song was a bit mushy for me. Never saw the movie.
1994:”I Swear” I'll pass on the Boyz ll Men, thank-you.
1995:”Have You Really Ever Loved a Woman” Don't recall (the SONG, people)
1996:”Macarena” If you actually translate the words to this, it's not nearly as much fun.
1997:”Candle In the Wind” Well, I did get up in the night to watch Diana's funeral.
1998:”I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” Best Aerosmith song ever.
1999:” Livin’ La Vida Loca”, If you don't know this one, it was popular while you were living on that deserted island.
2000:”Say My Name” check
2001:”Bootylicious”, And this is where we lose me. Apparently I turned off my radio in 2001 and never went back. Seriously, I think this was about the year I made the move to talk radio.
2002:”Lose Yourself”, no idea
2003:”Crazy in Love”- What?
2004:”Yeah”, Huh?
2005″We Belong Together”, Sounds nice, couldn't place it.
2006:”Bad Day”-??
2007:”Umbrella” Really? The number one hit of this year?
Excuse me while I crawl back under my rock. That bright sun is kind of hurting my eyes.

That's so fun! You aren't missing too much by switching the radio in 2001....
Fun post!!
ok, in 1982 I was only 6, but I still know all those songs. I still claim to be a child of the 80s, and I love a lot of the music from that era. The 90s was high school and college for me so I love those tunes as well. Todays music? Some I dig, others I seriously don't get. That 'umbrella' song--totally stupid (and the video is rather skanky).
I'm an XM radio fan--they have an 80s station and a 90s station; love them.
Oh, that 'bad day' song is that one they played on American Idol last year (you know, every time someone got booted).
Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
hi randi: fun post. you know what is wild is that i could've written just about the exact same thing you did to each. i felt pretty much the same way you did about each and then i also didn't recognize anything once 2001 hit. and i did accidentally start saying ice ice baby in my head and then had to chuckle when i saw your comment about it. it is like pavlov's dog and the bell and salivating. you just can't help it. i wouldn't be surprised if we were close to the same age for our take on these (i am 38).
enjoyed this, thanks, nighty-night, kathleen :)
You know, I went to itunes to hear that Umbrella song, and I STILL didn't recognize it. I usually figure at least I've probably heard it, just don't recognize the title, or whatever.
But no, I'm officially old.
My nephew used to sing, "I love rock 'n roll, put another dime in the JUICE box baby...." Good times.
Wow. Umbrella?? What is this world coming to. I really want to play that for my English teacher this year and see how they like the extra hundred syllables added to Umbrella. I'm not sure I even remember how many syllables it has now.
I vaguely remember hearing the umbrella song once and I think I liked it. "You had a bad day" is one of my favorites! I think it will be one of those classics that KOSI plays for years to come. If the list had included country I'd probably know them all...
ha..Puff finally taught me the true lyrics to "Don't Wanna Miss a Thang."..I never knew it had the line "and I don't wanna miss a thang." Weird. I guess in this day and age lyrics aren't pertinent.
