Compliment Trifecta

I have a love/hate relationship with my hair. It's naturally curly, and there's lots of it. Which sounds like it should be a good thing. But the thing is, I always wanted to have silky straight long hair, that would blow in the breeze like the models in a 70's shampoo commercial.
So, I've pretty much always pretended that I had straight or straightish hair. This involves a lot of electrical appliances, let me tell ya.

A couple of years ago, my hair Wizard, Kami talked me into a curly hair thing. She did it by pulling out this fabulous photo of local sportscaster Susie Wargin and her perfect, curly hair, and telling me that my hair would definitely, absolutely do this:

And when Kami cuts and styles it, IT DOES THAT!!
But for some reason, I can NOT make it happen that way. It ends up looking frizzy and just wavy, instead of hanging in those darling not-frizzy ringlets.

So I have been straightening it again. With a straightening iron this time. You know, just to get even on that darn hair.

This morning, I saw Susie on TV and while I was lamenting her perfect curls, The Brain said,
"You know, I LOVE it when you let your hair go curly."
"really?" I asked. " I don't know - - It just seems frizzy and fat."
"Nope." he said. "It makes you look really young.
and sexy. ..
and thin."
And there it was... the compliment Trifecta.
Guess how I'm wearing my hair today?

Did you send him to a compliment giving class or did he come that way? ;)

I KNOW THE ANSWER!!!! Gosh, if I could just find a hair style that my hubby would say made me look really young, sexy, and thin--heck I would just settle for any one of those ; )

Brilliant man!

I've always wanted curly hair. I've got that inbetween kinda straight but with odd waves in odd places kind of hair. Neither one nor the other. Ugh.

Ha! You won the lottery.

I know what you mean about the frizz and curl. I swear I feel like I have a lions mane when it curly.

I'm like Kimberly - I have stick straight hair. It won't hold a curl for anything. I've always dreamed of curly hair.

Why do we always want what we don't have?

Good hubby....he did good!!

I wish I had curly hair..mine is as stick straight and thick and heavy as it can get. The grass is always greener or...the curl is always curlier :p

Hubby did good! Oh, yeah! :)

I loved your reference to the 70's shampoo models...I always dreamed of having that type of hair! But like yours, mine is thick and curly. I learned to love it by using lots of product...I'm talking gel, spray gel, mousse...I use all three! If you get frizz, just try using more product! Hey, it all shampoos out anyway, haha!

People who want curly hair: You do NOT want it. It sucks. Although, if your hair were fine, then it wouldn't be so bad. Thick, curly, and coarse hair is the worst.

I'm with you randi. I straighten the snot out of my hair. In fact, I don't think I could do curly anymore. Last time I tried it was a heaping mess.

I hate those models on shampoo commercials. I covet their hair.

But yay for hubbie. Have you trained him or does he come up with that stuff on his own? Bonus points for The Brain.

I, too, have lots of curly hair that pretty much does what it wants to do. I recently found a new hair wizard named Alicia, who styled it in this really straight way, and it looked really good when she did it. She used a round brush and a hair dryer. And when I do it, I look like a mushroom. The cut, however, is still good and looks nice curly. Which is good. 'Cause I don't always have the hour it seems to take to get it straight.

Wow. That is quite the compliment.

I loved having straight hair. Notice the past tense. Because with each pregnancy, my bottom layer of hair got wavier and wavier, but now it's just kinked. I could go curly now, but only on the under layer of my hair.

Imagine the beauty for a moment of my stick-straight top layer barely covering the kinked-up, curly layer.

Strangely, I've never seen a hair model whose hair looks quite like mine . . .
