Is It Just Me? #201

From the program of the high school play I attended last night:

Between #2 and #6 it occurs to me yet again that really? 9 times out of 10 I do not understand the communication that comes out of that building.

Maybe the school could use one of those eleventy-seven inservice days they seem to always schedule on the day before a holiday, to discuss communication skills.

Or maybe I'm just bonko because I don't understand the stuff they send home.

At least the play was good.

FIRST!
That's funny! It looks like the same kind of thing that comes from our school. I got a note home yesterday that said that there is no school Friday for teacher prep day. That's the 4th or 5th one this school year! They always give us such short notice. It drives me crazy!

Wow! I love that. Our school is pretty good at information, so I cant complain, however we have had a couple of huge snow storms, and kids have actually had to sleep at the school, because parents couldnt get to the school. But communication is usually pretty good.

See... what they are saying is that you can WATCH the play through a video camera, but you can't actually record it. It made sense to me ;)

Two comes before six. I'd follow that one. Two, after all, has squatter's rights.

Ha ha ha ha. That made me laugh out loud! I'm always noticing stuff like that too, so thanks for posting it! I wonder who signed that one off and said it looked OK...

Right, that makes complete sense..you CAN videotape but it's prohibited. *sigh* I don't know about some people...

Don't you just wish at the end of the year we parents could give THEM a report card!!!

I LOVE melissa's comment ; )

That's so funny!! So, did you follow the rules or rebel??

Funny! At the local high school last year the reader board said "Congradulations Graduates". NICE HUH!!

The question is, did you go early to set up your video camera and then have a really grumpy, hypocritical man come after you left and move it?

I was wondering the same thing Vern!

So, how can one videotape when it's prohibited? Hmmm, sounds like a question for the administration. That would be awesome to walk in their office and ask.

I like the other strict guidelines. How sad that we live in a society where people actually need to be told how to behave in an event.

Funny enough to be on Leno.

I've used one document to create another one before and messed it up significantly. It looks like something I could have done. :) After almost 40 years I have learned to give myself time to PROOF READ the things I hand out to others. Doesn't always fix my spelling errors, but I probably would have noticed that little issue. –Or hey, maybe not…

Super Happy Girl said...

Wait. Maybe they meant that video taping is OK BUT videotaping is prohibited (not OK).
Yeah.

Janell said...

Well either they think "video taping" and "videotaping" are different things or they don't know the difference between "OK" and "prohibited."

Just think! These are the people educating the future of America.

Oh! I've figured it out. Whoever copy edited the rules is from a logic-based profession (e.g. computer science). Ha! I'll spare you the proof.

What's really being said in a screwy math sense is that you can video tape so long as you're not doing another form of video recording or audio recording at the same time.

Tonya said...

Ummmm no, it's not just you. Some proofreader is hitting their head right about now.

Oh my...that's just hilarious!

So maybe it's okay to videotape the play as long as no one actually sees you doing it...kinda like how it's okay to leave your cell on as long as it doesn't ring. :P

Yeah, I am pretty sure if you read that note five times in one day, your skull will crack open.

No videotaping unless prohibited?

Good thing they're running things there, huh?

That's hilarious! So many rules, so little time...

Maybe they just changed their mind halfway through typing it.
Or maybe they're just stupid.

and here I thought OUR school district was the only one that scheduled as many 3 (and sometimes 4) day weekends as they can during one school year...

Whoever it was that typed up that play program doesn't come across as being terribly smart.

Scary, since it was from SCHOOL, haha! :D

What the feces?!
That is ridiculous.
Ok, I will admit it, I didn't pick up on it the first time, because I am blonde.

I have been lurking on your blog for awhile but this post is something that pushed my button! Not necessarily your comments about the video taping, but the comments about the communication coming from the school. I am a school administrator, and quite honestly, communicating to parents is one of the most important things we do. In response to shultzybabe, the school calendar is usually given out in the opening packet when school starts. Most schools also have their calendar posted online all the time. As for the specific notes during the week, those are to REMIND you of the ucoming day off, as you have already been told about them when you received the yearly calendar. I have found that I should send the reminders home a day or two before, because the parents don't remember if it is anytime earlier. Also, as for the teacher professional days, those are days that are used to improve the practice of teachers. Just like in any other profession, you would want them to take time to be up on the current trends. Imagine going to a doctor or a dentist who never attended any professional development classes to improve their practice.
After reading many of the comments, its a wonder that the students don't give the administrators and teachers respect. Please parents, GIVE THE SCHOOL A BREAK! They too are HUMAN!!
