Rethinking

Over at Sue's blog several days ago she posted a photo montage with a Trace Atkins song. It was beautiful, and I was a little weepy and thinking about how fast the time went when my kids were little and how I really did miss that.
And at some point, one of my children came in to ask me a question, and I was just annoyed at the interruption. Couldn’t they see that I was trying to appreciate how fast children grow up, and how special our time with them is?

Oh.

Yeah.

And it hit me like a windshield on a bug - that this little time period I'm living right now, may be the last time I have all my children living under one roof. Ever.
( Well, I mean, unless they all turn out to be slugs, and live in the basement when they're 40... but let's not go there.)

And as I've contemplated the hours I spend online reading, writing, rewriting (stop laughing! I rewrite! ) I’ve determined that I have GOT to step back from it a little bit.

I'm embarrassed to talk about the number of times I've been annoyed when my kids have interrupted my blogging time. I’m sad for the conversations with them I've missed, and the opportunities to serve them and others that have gone unnoticed because I’ve been spending more time than I should online.

Basically, I’m having trouble finding a balance between my cyberlife and my real life.

So I’m taking off a week to spend with my family.

Oh, I’m not giving up blogging. There are too many things I love about it. Especially all the new friends I’ve made, and continue to make. I’m just taking it down a notch. No more pressure (from myself) to post every day, and no more pressure (again, from myself) to go visiting every blog on my google reader every single day.

There’s a balance in here somewhere, and I’m going to find it.

(PS- Thanks for missing me! I'll see you soon!)

Enjoy your week!! Being so sick has forced me to do the same thing, blessing in disguise, eh?

I am so glad that you are taking time to be with your family. Finding a balance is so hard(for me at least).

Thanks for not giving up on entertaining all of your cyber friends.

I figured you were going through something like that, so I didn't bug you.

Enjoy the time--it does go by way too quickly. Take it from someone who only has one left at home. Believe me when he's home, I try not to be on the computer.

Hope the preparation for your son's mission is going well. Isn't it amazing how much there is to do and buy!!!

Blogging breaks are in epidemic numbers right now, eh? Good for you for seeking that balance! Umm...wait, I'm on a break too. Darn. Blew my cover.

Have a good break!

It is so smart of you to think about your priorities as you go thru your life instead of just at the end. Have fun on your hiatus.

you know, i have been feeling this exact same way. Except my kid is 8 weeks old and I am getting annoyed when he wants to be fed, AGAIN, or changed, AGAIN.

Maybe I should take a break too.

... but I don't know if it would be good to go through detox right now. I'm sort of addicted to the Internet.

good luck to you though! I do hope you keep updating because I really like reading your blog!

There must be something in the bloggy air... there are so many who seem to be feeling the exact same way! Take all the time you need... I think it's a good thing to do every now and again. I know I enjoyed my break!

I think the spring weather is driving people away from their blogs in droves.

It's ok. Family should come before blogging!

Hey, this is Jolene from YW! I know what you mean about a break, my two year old started crying the other day when I got on the computer....a sure sign I've been on too much too :(

you are even smarter than I thought you were. I'm not so good at balancing my lives (mom, wife, Den Leader, Visiting Teacher, friend, sister, daughter, etc.) and I do the same thing to my own kids ~ especially when they interrupt me during a Webkinz Kinz Cash Arcade spree... :)

Enjoy your time off, but think of us now and again.

Hey! I rewrite, too! HIGH FIVE! :D

Well, you pretty much described me! I've been trying to ease back a bit, but I'm not doing such a good job of it! :S

Have a good bloggy break, and know that I'll miss you! :)

What? Family before blogging? What's up with that?! ;-)

I wish I had a family to put before blogging; but alas.....I don't, so blogging fills that void. But I know what you mean--I've had to cut back slightly due to higher demands this semester (but not enough to keep me away; it's like the Mormon version of cocaine).

Good for you for taking a step back and evaluating, although I have to say that you will be greatly missed. You truly are a remarkable person. Enjoy the time with the fam.

I don't think I've been blogging long enough to burn out, but I do have to keep myself in check...So I guess It's a good thing I don't have a google reader? Melissa mentioned that during her Blogality check too!

I, for one, will definitely be having justrandi withdrawals. But it's for a good cause, so I will just SUCK IT UP LIKE A BIG BOY!

The rewards for you will be plentiful. I just hope you don't get what I got recently: "Hey Dad, can't you go Blog a little while please?"

:)
