Working From Home

The Brain has recently started doing some Work From Home days. Theoretically, it's because of the price of gas, not to mention the 30 minutes in the car each way.

But Working From Home is kinda messing with my groove.

See, to me, Work From Home means, "Hey, you're home today. Let's go out for lunch and maybe swing over to Costco."

But to The Brain, it means "Hey, I have a phone meeting at 10 and 2, and somewhere in there I have to get some actual work pumped out."

It's like he's taunting me. On purpose.

What fun is ( insert air quotes here) Working From Home if you actually work?

I used to do some work from home and my mom would take this as "Hey, Bee's home! She can watch the baby (my sister's baby) while I go grocery shopping!"
No matter how much I tried to convince her of how much work I had to do, I'd wind up with a one and half year old playing airplane.

Hee hee...I can well imagine. My issue is that when Neil takes the afternoon off from his work he expects me to take it off from mine. Really throws me off, though I'm learning to enjoy it. =P

oooh -- I hated it when my husband would "work from home" for the same reason! It's NO FUN! Luckily he dumped his job and is now working a job where he CAN'T work at home. Yippee! ;)

Hey, he's at home--that's the fun part, right?!?

I never considered home schooling my children for the same reason--It would just be "let's play", not "let's do some WORK"

I've been working from home for the past 3 years. All of the people I manage also work from home which means little to no travel, which I love! It does take a little getting used to, and workaholics can get into trouble! Just make sure that when he's pumping out work that it isn't at 1 am ;)

It took me a while to figure that one out too ;)
"My body is here but I am working"

What gives? He has to stop for lunch sometime, doesn't he? ;-)

My dad worked out of the home when I was in high school. It kinda sucked. He was always stressed out and if we were too loud, well.....

I think I'd have a hard time working out of the home. I need to separate the two. My job is my job and I do it there. My home is my home and I do 'home' stuff there. I admire people who can bring their work home.

And now I'm rambling again....

I had to face this situation when I homeschooled my kids. We had to stick to set schedules, even on those mornings that I got up and really wanted to go shopping because my favorite store was having an amazing sale!

I found that you had to carry this over to others, also, who figured they could call you or just stop by during the school day because, well, you were always at home.

I do work at a home based business now, so that whole thing hasn't really been an issue because it was already dealt with.

Thanks for the post!

Working from home means that when I'm in my jammies, in bed, and it's midnight, but my husband is still working that is ok to come in to the bedroom and ask "where's the blueprint for the xyz job?". To be fair, though, I've done the same to him - "hey can you pause that movie right at the climatic moment so I can ask you about this invoice?" Yeah, we drive each other crazy.

May I ask a favor? Could you ask the Brain for some pointers on how to actually do that? I can't get more than an hour left alone. I created a large sign to put on the office door (DO NOT DISTURB) but everyone thinks the sign is for everyone else.

Would love some tips. Shooting people isn't allowed :)

Yeah, I'm not sure how Rhett gets ANYTHING done when he's at home. I'm always like, "Hey can you just change this diaper before you go do your work?" And then before he knows it, he's changed a diaper, fed the kids, and put the baby down for a nap. I'm good at delegation.

I think it's far to fun when my husband is home, so he doesn't get alot done, when your at home with 3 littles it is so nice to have someone big to talk to!

It took me like 3 months to get the whole "I'm working I can't" thing figured out. I'm still not very good at it though.

The most torturous year of my life is when Papi telecommuted. We had 6 kids under the age of 8 including a newborn and two toddlers and we had just started homeschooling in our very little house. Yeah, its real easy to keep 6 kids quiet while you're on a conference call!

I would love to work at home....sort of. I wonder if I would be too busy doing what I wanted to do instead of doing what I needed to do.
When my honey is home and I am at work, it kills me! KILLS ME!!! I want to be home with him and do whatever he is doing. So it is a good thing that both of our jobs are NOT at home.

I am always amazed at people that can work from home and actually accomplish something. I know I couldn't!!

I love it! This is so true, but people actually can do this.

We are trying to get this to happen at my company, too. It's all up to the decision of the "big kahunas" who have a hard time believing people can be productive from home. Thank goodness you guys can save some gas money this way.
