You have to give this some thought, people. You need to be prepared.
I mean, let's face it, the interviewer can make your life sweet apple juice and daisies, or a carbon copy or the OJ nightmare, depending on what he or she wants to have happen.
Take Nancy Grace. Am I the only one who thinks that everyone she interviews looks guilty? Do you think it's a coincidence that Nancy never interviewed Mother Teresa? No way. I think Mother Teresa just had a very astute PR guy.
What about Larry King? The problem there is that Larry has a reputation for only doing softball interviews, which is what I want, but I don't want everyone to know I want that, right? On the other hand, I guess you don't really expect an in-your-face interview with a heroic pilot or whatever.
And plus, he sorta creeps me out a little. (Sorry, Larry.)
I used to think Oprah would be sort of nice and compassionate, but I'm still boycotting her over the whole
I'm not using my show for politics. I mean, not YOUR politics, since I've already used it for mine.mentality that she tried to pull over on us.
I've seen more than one blindsided guest by the many different morning talk show journalists, so I'm not sure I would really even consider going there.
Even my celebrity bff Glenn Beck - though I love to watch him- can be a little cantankerous to someone sitting across the table if he doesn't like what they're saying.
I don't know. But I do have more carpools to drive today, so it's possible that I'll come up with a more concrete answer to this pressing question. Do you have any thoughts? Anyone else I should be considering? Or maybe you want to just take bets on the likelihood of me getting into the news for doing something heroic in the first place, since I spend way more time driving carpools than I do flying airplanes.
And then there's the very valid point, that it's possible I just spend entirely too much time alone with my free thoughts.
Whatever.

I have actually thought about this before. I can't remember what I was famous for in my daydream though. Anyway...
Here are some more options
1. Katie Couric (sp?)
2. Matt Lauer (sp?)
3. Tyra Banks :)
4. That intense Mary lady from ET
Obviously I need to watch more TV to come up with my answer. I can't even spell.
I am with Heather. Turn to Tyra, or Dr. Phil, for all your hard hitting journalism needs.
:-)
You should teach a class called "Random Thoughts 101" and a graduate level course called "Random Thoughts: The Alternate Reality 504"
Oh, and I'd want Geraldo to interview me so I could pull his mustache and say "HONK"
Katie and Matt both scare me. (Especially Matt) But I have never actually watched Tyra. I'm going to have to do that so I can move her up the consideration list.
I think I'd pick Matt Lauer just because I think he's cute. But then, maybe that'd be a bad thing because I'd be distracted during the whole interview thinking thoughts like:
"I'm sitting across from Matt Lauer!!"
"Do you think he thinks I'm cute?" and
"I hope I don't have something in my teeth"
Oh, and I think it's more of a point that you just spend entirely too much time driving around carpools. Isn't everyone in your house old enough to drive yet?
Only Bro. Beck would do.
And a box of double chocolate chocolate cookies.
By the fire.
While he feeds them to me.
And I am wearing Kristina's snuggie.
You're missing the E! interviewers. What about Ryan Seacrest?
Plane on the Hudson? How about minivan on the freeway? It could happen. (I think your thoughts are great--the more time you have to think them, the better, I say!)
Ew - I think Tyra Banks is too - fake or something in her show. Only stomached it once. But I don't even have anyone better to suggest - my TV time mostly revolves around Dora and The Backyardigans - no hard hitting question askers there.
I think I would do something more like morning talk shows- you know, The View, or Regis and Kelly- purely for entertainment purposes only. Ok, If I'm getting serious I might consider Bill O'Reilly, or Anderson Cooper, I know they seem like opposites but, I believe they both love a good American Hero story.
It would be Charlie Gibson for me, or maybe Diane Sawyer. They both seem genuinely nice to me and my guess is, even if they did bring up my weaknesses, they wouldn't exploit them too much.
Who am I fooling? I'd look like an idiot no matter who interviewed me!
HAHAHA Tyra would be the best. When I saw that one commenter suggested her, I laughed my head off.
Everyone looks good compared to Tyra b/c she gets a bit loopy on her show sometimes.
I second for Gibson or Sawyer although I'm all for pulling Walter Cronkite out of mothballs too (anyone know if he's still alive?)
My husband has been interviewed a couple of times--not a fun experience.
I'd like to be interviewed by Matt Lauer (I think he'd be fair). I also like Diane Sawyer--I've never seen her go off on anyone. But then again, I guess it depends on what you're being interviewed about. If it was something I felt passionate about (i.e., the Church or something regarding my family) I'd probably blubber like a baby.
Who said Katie or Matt. That would be like being in the same room with Charles Manson to me.
I would pick Gretel or is it Gretchen Vanwhateverherlastnameis....
She really seems like the one I would choose. Can't wait for the interview... :) Hee Hee Haw.
I don't know about the whole interview thing, but I am with you about Oprah. That woman has way too much power and influence over people. True, she has done some really great things, and ha some really great guests, but her personal views/politics overshadow any entertainment value for me...
:~D
Hey, I love your blog, and I am now a 'follower'. I'd love it if you would consider 'following' mine!
I think we watch the exact same programs, "you sick twisted freak!"
Though I claim not to be a Huckabee fan, he really does do a great job. He is very respectful to his guests and lets the truth speak for it's self. I choose Mike. Honorable mention for newscasters in general: I miss mean ol' Mike Wallace, he was terrifying! I must have a thing for Mike's.
Yeah, I would never want to be interviewed by Nancy Grace. Ever.
Isn't it too bad you can't just get an interview because you're a hard-working mom? Seems like we could see more of that in the news, right?
Can I just add my 'amen' about Oprah! As we say in the south, she's gotten too big for her britches. It drives me nuts that she has experts on her show, but never lets them talk. Because she knows it all!
Diane Sawyer asks the dumbest questions. I hope someone else writes them for her. And I used to like Charlie Gibson, but he's a little too much like Nancy Grace for me.
I can honestly say I have never thought about this before...hmm...Maybe I would go with Bonny Hunt. She is funny...and nice. But so is Ellen :)
Diane Sawyer gets my vote. Or Ellen. Unless you're worried that she's gonna think you're cute. Then, no.
"Random thoughts the alternate reality 504" I am laughing so hard. Dave is right. You'd could teach the masters class! I guess that is why you have such a great blog Randi!!
Barbra Walters...I really do like her interviews.
You could just go on the view and not have to talk at all! lol
Bill O'Reilly rocks my world! Really ... it's true! :)
Couric and Lauer are definite no's. (Can we say agenda?) And so are Oprah and anyone associated with the b*#@h-fest, I mean View.
I'd let Bill O'Reilly, not only because I agree with him 95% of the time, but he's held on to the number one show on cable news for years (I mean, it's all about the exposure, right?)
And hello--Ryan Seacrest would be number 2.
I think I'd limit myself to the talk show circuit. Ellen, Bonnie Hunt, Letterman, Leno... that might be it.
And no Nancy Grace, no way, no how!
Kermit the Frog comes to my mind. I mean, he's so understanding and stuff. He knows it's not easy being green. Even though I'm not green.
