Over the Edge

Last weekend, we moved Hannah to southern Colorado, where she has a job working at Mesa Verde. She was excited, and nervous, and ready for a new adventure.
I took a lot of pictures, which I would love to post today, but apparently I left my camera in the vehicle The Brain took to work.

So in the meantime...

Tell me if you think this is funny-
We had spent most of Saturday driving and moving stuff, unloading boxes, going to Walmart, etc, and about 3:30 I realized we'd eaten breakfast pretty early, and hadn't had lunch.
So I volunteered to go over to Subway. When I asked The Brain what he wanted, he seriously looked at me and said,
"I don't know. Get me something small. We're just going to be eating dinner in about 3 hours."
It Cracked Me Up. I'm still laughing about it. He doesn't see why that's funny. Even after I explained it to him, he still doesn't see the humor.

Is it funny to you? or have I finally gone over the edge?

(It's OK, you can tell me. I really want to know what you think.)

I'll be honest and say I don't get it. And I'm hoping I don't feel like a complete dunce once someone hops in to explain it to me. ;)

I think it's pretty funny!
What your husband said is how I think and my fam laughs at me all the time. Oh well!! ha ha

P.S. Mesa Verde is cool!

I guess it's funny if you aren't the one who thinks the way he does. My husband and I both think that way ... So you weren't going to be eating later that day?

OH. I get it now. but I'm trying to find the funny.

I wish I got it! Am I super lame for not picking up on the humor?

I get it and I would have laughed, too. Then my husband would have realized Subway was all he was going to get that day. Surely he wasn't expecting dinner (supper?) after all you'd been doing?

Oh, I get what people are saying, and I would likely have planned for Subway to be dinner, too, but I didn't think that was what would be funny. I was thinking more along the lines of, aren't you starving? Even if you have dinner coming, you're still hungry enough for a meal and a half at that point, aren't you?

Sometimes when we are sleep or food deprived, things that ordinarily don't seem funny are absolutley hilarious. I think this is one of those instances! But it's ok. Just eat a hot meal and take a nap. You'll feel much better!
:~D

...unless you are laughing because you think it's funny that you're going to make HIM something to eat again in only 3 hours after YOU have a foot-long! Then it's funny! You're hilarious!

It's funny to me cuz why would he ever want something small---whether dinner is soon or not? :)

Um yeah, I didn't get it. I guess I'm not that sharp. In fact, I'd almost be thinking along the same lines. (Save the appetite for something bigger and better later....)

Like other readers, I'm not seeing the humor other than his potentially false assumptions about the existence of dinner let alone its schedule.

My strategy would be get a foot long - eat half now, and eat half later that night.

Who's Hannah?

That is funny to me just because my husband is always hungry, even if we are eating in three hours.
Mesa Verde is awesome! We used to live in Durango, CO so we were able to go see it a few times.

IT IS FUNNY!!
"Uhhh aren't you hungry now? This is it...your chance to fix that grumbling and pain that says "FEED ME"." I guess maybe he had a great/special idea for what dinner was going to be?

I think I get it in three ways. (1) as others have said, you probably intended for Subway to be dinner; (2) sometimes our lives are so conditioned to schedules and patterns that our minds can't get out of that box -- in your husband's world, dinner time is a set time on the clock, so having Subway mid-afternoon seemed like a snack; (3) when he said "we", did he mean that he was going to fix something for him to eat in three hours, or that he was expecting you to fix him something in three hours? Since I don't know your husband, I won't judge his intent, but the feminist side of me hopes that he really wasn't expecting you to fix him dinner three hours later after running out to get sandwiches.

#1 & 2 are worthy of a chuckle just because of human nature and how conditioned we are to certain expectations; #3 is worthy of an eyeroll.

I would have responded exactly like your husband. I had to read the responses to see why it was funny. In my world, meals are a set time and anything else is a snack. Sorry... I'm lame.

If I had a million dollars, I would eat lots of stuff.

hey, thought i'd stop by and say hi!! I'm not all the way recovered yet, but maybe soon, huh?

I didn't get it either, but it's probably just because I'm not awake yet. Who invented year round school that has me getting up early all summer. FOR. THE. BIRDS.

(Don't you like how I turned your post around and made it all about me? I'm gifted.)

Maybe Kevin is the funny one.

Sorry, don't get it--but I'm not very quick.

Your blog friends are funny, Randi! And here's what I think--you were in Mesa Verde, not home, so of course you were still going to be eating out later that night, which means Kevin didn't expect you to make him dinner at all! So to me, the reason it is funny is because it was funny to you, and after you've been married close to 25 years that is really all that matters. :)
