When you go out on a double-date, and you pick up the other couple in your car, where does everyone sit?
Men in front- women in back, or couples together?
I always feel a little bit awkward about this no matter which way we do it.
Which may be possibly one of the many reasons our social life resembles the audience on Kathy Lee Gifford's new tv show. cricket.... cricket....cricket...

Date? What date? I'm married... that means I don't date any more ;)
For us it has to do with a few factors, like how long we'll be driving, and how much we like to chat with the respective people. If it's a short drive, couples together, definitely. If it's a bit longer and I want to gab with my gal pal, we'll sometimes shuffle things around a bit.
I always sit with my hubby...I kind of like him ; )
I agree with Kimberly. If it's a long drive, it's easier if I don't have to talk across someone. Plus I get nauseous having to look back over my shoulder. We have one couple we go out with though who always sit together--no matter what!
You are making the sexist assumption that the dude always drives.
Me driving + Nat as a passenger = Epic Fights.
So from that context, any chick gets the option to ride shotgun before me.
depends on how well you know the other couple - we usually sit guys and girls together
We don't live by our friends, so it's usually just us or in separate cars. My parents always sit by couple unless the other couple says otherwise.
Umm... I am having to think really hard about this one as the last time we went on a double date.. well it was probably when we were dating and of course nothing could separate you then.
So that is a good question.
Wouldn't it just be easier for the spouse of the driver to inquire of the person of counter role in the companion couple, "Would you prefer to sit in the front or in the back?"
I think it depends on how "formal" the date is. I also think you communicate how you want the date to be- more about you and your husband or about hanging out with friends.
I'm with Melissa. . . I don't date. And considering the fact that I've only ever doubled once in my life I don't think I could help you out very much. But I would probably assume sitting as couples.
Hmmm... great question. We've done it all ways, I suppose it just depends on who we go out with.
I'm all about one couple up front, one back.
It makes me happy.
Sometimes awkward, but usually husband and I sit together and then get a sore neck turning around backwards to talk to our friends.
I say bring on the awkward. Have the opposite sex spouse of the other couple sit up front with the driver, and then the other two in the back.
Double dating.....what's that?
Dating? We're lucky if we get a half hour to run to the store for a car battery by ourselves.
Since we are speaking hypothetically, I say everyone sit with their honey. You can gab when you get there, wherever there is, face to face then.
I think it would depend on how many of the kids car seats are still buckled in the back of the car.
If we ever go out with another couple (which hasn't happened for an eternity) we just meet them at the restaurant.
I like to sit with my husband but it does always create a little awkwardness trying to talk from front seat to back seat, etc...
Who knows
why not just mix it up. driver in front and the rest in back, or even more awkward, 3 in front and 1 in back-what the heck

Doesn't happen often....but I guess it would depend on who we were doubling with. I mean, if it's people that we aren't really close to, then I'd rather sit by my hub. But if I'm great friends with the other couple, then maybe we might do the boys up front and girls in the back.... :)
i always see the gray haired folk men in front....women in the back. these days!? who knows. formalities don't exist much, do they?
It usually works out with couples in the same row, but we have the other guy sit behind the girl, and the other girl sit behind the guy, so that it's easier to talk with our respected friend! At restaurants we usually end up sitting girls together and guys together, though!
Wait, Kathy Lee Gifford has a new tv show? Why hasn't anyone told me? I've been needing a new material, this is just what the doctor ordered!
Couples stick together. The end.
