Profundity Pretty Much Comes To Me Naturally

Last week I got to watch my nephews and niece for a few days while my brother was out of town.  Can I just tell you, I am completely envious of those of you with little kids...
I laughed the whole time I was there.  And oh, the stories I could tell you!

Like the night the two year old started a tantrum, and my four year old niece looked at me sitting cozily on the couch and said, "Aunt Randi, we don't let him do that.  We usually spank him."

and then when I didn't get up immediately, she said,

"Don't worry, I'll do it for ya."  and then started purposefully in his direction.

And after I was done laughing, (no, I did not let her spank him), I wondered --How can something that is SO MUCH FUN be SO MUCH WORK?    And we're not even talking about the teen phase yet.

Come to think of it, that's a pretty profound question about parenting. Or life in general.
Only 12:30 in the afternoon and I've already been profound.  My work here is done.

(Now I'm going to go put "be profound" on my to do list so I can check it off.)

alter comment set profound = 'ON';

If it wasn't so much fun, how many people would actually finish it the first time, or if they did finish how many would do it again?

alter comment set profound = 'OFF';

(I'm gonna go put profundity on my list too)

(right after I spell check 'profundity')

I hear you. It is the most amazing rewarding thing you can do! Yet also the most draining, and stressful job!

I can't believe you didn't jump right up and spank him! You are SO permissive!! :)

I love your closing parenthesis. I seriously do that. (only not usually about being profound. Or not ever, actually.)

Sure, just let the four year old do you job. ;)

That is hilarious. Reminds me of my 4 and 2 year old a few months back . . .remember? 2 year old throwing a major screaming fit, I say "Somebody needs to smack that child" and the 4 year old happily raises her hand and does it! =)

Hmmm... Im trying to find a come back. I am still in shock that all you had to say was it was funny and fun. I kept waiting to read that you are exhausted and glad you have no kids in the house.

Chief - that was the "SO MUCH WORK" part. I actually went back and edited out the "exhausted and glad my kids are older" part.

Mainly because I remembered that my kids are teenagers and they are every bit as much work - - only now it's mental and emotional...
And I pretty much live my life exhausted from that.

Yeah, they pretty much tell you how it is... that's awesome.

kk, i looked it up, and i am officially impressed by your use of the word "profundity."

i'm going to have to start working it into everyday convos now.

My three year old tells his older siblings "go oo yo womb" (go to your room) whenever he feels picked on.

LOL - I needed to be reminded about the funny moments. And oh, they are many and often between ...

It's true. Kids are 24-7 comedy central. I've started writing down all the hilarious things that mine do, so I can have a pick-me-up on the days I want to sell them on the black market.

did i ever tell you about the time josh put me in time out?

i literally had to sit in the tiny spongebob chair. pretty hard on the thighs.

Is profundity an actual word? I'm impressed.

Yeah. That's why my days are mostly boring--no kids to entertain me. I think teaching has given me reason enough for birth control.

I definitely enjoy babysitting my nieces and nephews---but I'm always happy to give them back to their parents after awhile:)

Oh, I can sit and watch Lucy for hours, and be thoroughly entertained. We write down the stuff she says - it's just outlandish! And I'm pretty sure there's never been a wittier two-year-old in the history of two-year-olds. I could be biased there.

Her latest thing is calling me by my first and last name when she's angry with me.

Some times (and I mean just some times) I think it would be fun to go back and do it all over again--without worrying about EVERYTHING but enjoying it more. Oh, if we could just laugh more WOULDN'T LIFE BE BETTER ; )

I bet you are a fun aunt.

Yvonne and Randi - this is what being a Grammie is all about!!! It's so much fun! Grandkids are the CUTEST and say the funniest things and I love every minute of it. The only sad part is when they live far away - but that gives you a reason to travel :0)
And writing down the funny things your kids say will be priceless in years to come. I kept a note pad on the fridge and wrote all the craziness down all week and on Sunday's a wrote a letter to my sister living in Germany and told her all the hilarious things going on in our house. Luckily my husband made copies of them and I have 2 or 3 books of letters that my kids love to read when they're home for a visit. Ain't life grand?

I can just picture her doing it too.......

How very profund, I mean profound.

I read a story once where three women were comparing how hard thier lives were. The mom of a set of toddlers complained how hard it was to constantly keep track and keep her kids safe. The mom of a 7 year old boy was grousing about all the trouble her kid got into. The mother of two teens was telling the other moms that they had no idea how hard it was until they had to deal with disrespectful loudmouth teenagers.
While these mothers were mulling over thier fates a Woman in her sixties spoke up and said that the hardest time for her was now when her kids were grown up with families of thier own and her house was devoid of children.

I was fine with this until I read your comment about teens being just as much exhausting work except it's emotional instead of so much physical. Thanks.... I've been stripped of all hope that my exhausting 2 are going to give me a break from the exhausting before I'm 98 years old.
(I still love you though)

I wish I liked tending other people's little kids, but I pretty much can't stand it! Hopefully I'll feel differently when I get some grandkids (some day)! :D

We have so much fun watching family videos of the kids when they were little. They always ask for favorite scenes and we watch them over and over. Just mention the 'feather dance' and they will break out laughing. ;)
