Adventure Squared

Last week when our summer calendar called for an Adventure Day, Mimi  and I decided to go to the Rockies game with some friends.  The game would have been a good adventure all by itself, but then we also decided that in an effort to train for our upcoming pioneer trek, we would walk there.  It's about 15 miles, so you know, it was your basic A2 (as in "adventure squared", but I don't know how to make that little 2).

We had fun walking along a pretty riverside path that goes for miles and miles through Denver...only instead of taking the 4 hours we thought it would take, it took 5 1/2,  which means we didn't actually get to attend the game, because Mimi had to be home at a certain time, so we were only going to be there for an hour and a half, anyway.  But we did walk right up to Coors Field before we turned around and had to run to catch the light rail train back to our end of town. It was awesome.

Here are the adventures we're chalking up for the day:
  •   Hiking in approximately 190 degree heat. (That's just an educated guess, OBVIOUSLY.)  I still can not believe we didn't get sunburned.  I give all the credit to 40spf spray sunblock, and my nike dri-fit hat.
  • Seeing the homeless population that lives in the river bottoms. I mean, not ALL of them or anything.  We probably saw about 12 or 15.  All of them had beer cans in their hands, though.  One of them even lent me his knife so I could cut some moleskin.   Mimi was going crazy not to be able to provide immediate facebook status updates to all her friends about how her mother was making her do all these dangerous and extreme things.  That one would have read:  "I can't believe my mother just asked a drunken homeless man for a knife."
  • We lived.  Although there were a few moments there when I heard Mimi walking behind me chanting something.... which turned out to be "die, die, die, die, die..."  When I asked her what she was doing, she replied that she was thinking "happy thoughts".   Fortunately I was able to give her even happier thoughts of "here's some licorice", which helped for awhile.  (But I was still glad she was unable to access her fb status.)
Like I said, a true adventure. If I knew how to make those little numbers, I'd probably raise it to an A4 or 5 on the adventure scale.  But you know what I mean.

That's like adventure times a thousand, if you ask me!

Definitely good practice for the trek, and not bad exercise, to boot!

Well it sounds like it was fun, knives, moleskin, sunscreen and all. I'm surprised you didn't start running a few miles to get your pace up! ;)

I and my friends have rode our bikes to Rockies games a few times. Once the game was rained out but did the rain stop us from riding home; Heck no. I blame my stuborn friend. The Cherry creek trail is a great ride, seventeen miles from dam to Confluence park.

Wow-you gals rock! Even though it sounds painful to walk that far in such incredibly hot weather, I have to admit that I'm feeling jealous right now. It's been 18 days since I've walked on my right foot-I miss walking!!!!

My current happy thought will hereby be "Here's some licorice." Although I might change it to, "Here's some chocolate."

You are a taskmaster ; )

I have to tell you I've discovered gel moleskin and I love it so much more than plain old moleskin.

Walking 15 miles to go to a baseball game?! There are few things I'd hate doing more than that.

It's at least an adventure 3:)
