Ok! Bring on Summer!

You can finally breathe out now.  May is over.

While it was wonderful what with graduation parties, showers, school finals, summer job hunting, garden prep, birthday parties, weddings, 25th anniversary trips, trek activities and the like, as I predicted it was a CRAZY month.
We are so ready for summer.

Today in fact,  we are kicking it off with Lazy Day!  We have a family tradition that the first day out of school in the summer... we do absolutely nothing.  (Nothing like setting a standard for the summer, right?)    Nobody has to get out of bed at a certain time, nobody has to get dressed, eat right, or do chores.  And of course, I've included myself in this magical day of suspended reality, thus giving myself free time to peruse the blogosphere to my heart's content.  And watch HBO's John Adams mini-series.  And possibly do some laundry, because somehow it's more satisfying when I don't HAVE to do it.

Lazy Day is one of two days per year that my kids aren't required to do chores.  (Everyone asks if the other day is Christmas.  Umm, Heck. No.  You think I want to clean up CHRISTMAS by myself? )  The other day is their birthday.

Monday we'll try to start a regular routine around here, and the summer calendar will be in full swing, what with our themed days of the week, regular chores, and even Craaaaaazy Cereal Week.  But for today?  Just
Happy Summer!

jj, they start planning their next year's cereals as soon as their current cereal boxes start pouring out those sad little crumbs in the bottom.

As far as I can tell,Frosted Flakes is a frontrunner for this summer.

I need to know what your other themed days are, cause I was just about to make my own! Help a girl out!!

Hope all the celebrations went well.

I hope you are geared for trek. I know you'll do a great job--I admire you for taking on such a daunting task.

I love that you have theme days--we are sooooooo boring.

What's the one box of cereal they all love??? (I'm wondering what Kyle is eating for breakfast in the MTC. He's the only one of my children/grandchildren who HATES cereal--he can't stand the smell of any kind, especially when it's in a bowl with milk.

do you think they will carry on the tradition of lazy day when they move out? :-)

do you think they'll move out?

Dave said...

not if you keep pampering them with luxuries like "lazy day" and "crazy cereal week"

What's next?

"you get mom as a personal chauffeur" month?

Next you're going to want me to discontinue "breakfast in bed Fridays".

I love your lazy and crazy traditions! We get out next Thursday, and as far as I can tell we have nothing on the docket for Friday, so I may try this.

The kids would adore me, and I would owe it all to you.

what is crazy cereal day? or week or whatever it is that you have?

We also did a lazy day, basically our first 3 days of summer.

Oh and that John Adams series was SO FRIGGIN GOOD! We have it on dvd. LOVED IT! My fav part: When his wife had died and John is bedside sobbing, "My friend. My friend." UH. *cry*
