Today I Changed History

Well, at least the way history is portrayed. I got the City Secretary of Laredo, Texas to say he would change their coat of arms to be historically accurate.

What the heck? And why would I care? Here's the scoop:

Today I was listening to my BFF Glenn Beck, when someone on the show mentioned that on the Laredo, Texas website, the Mexican flag is posted above the US flag. Which really irked me.
So I went to the site, and sure enough, there it was.

I would love to show it to you, but I can't get it to download big enough that you can see it.

Anyway if you squint your eyes, it's there. Or go here.

So I wrote the City Secretary a polite letter asking if he was aware of the protocol. He sent a form letter to all those who wrote in, describing the coat of arms, and the history of the flags that have flown over Laredo at one time or another.

But as I followed his chronology, I noted that the flags were out of order. So my opinion would be to either put them in order, or put the US flag at the top.
This is the email I got back.

Randi:

They are ( in order) , even though there is a question on Republic of the Rio Grande which

dates 1840 which is between the Republic of Texas and

Randi:

You are right, there is an error, the US Flag should go after the Republic of the Rio Grande.

We’ll have to call the artist to redo it.

Good observation.

Thanks,

Gus Guevara, Jr.

City Secretary

So, wow!? Right?

I'm sort of feeling like a US senator tonight. I can say I corrected an injustice for millions of people... When in reality, nobody will notice a dang thing.

This was a hot topic for discussion on the Beck boards the other day....

Did you see that interview with the Congressman and the Sheriff? What a jerk that guy was. I also thought it very unethical of him, not to disclose to Beck that his brother was running for sherrif.

Anyway.....glad Glenn is your BFF too. ARe you going to get his new book?

Already ordered it. He is my BFF after all.

Go you!!

I've heard of this happening in several places. Sick and wrong. Now you just need to write the other places. ;-)

I've met Glenn...twice. I've touched his hand, gotten books signed, and he really chatted up my kids. I was even first at one of his events. Oh, and his BFF and talk show friend Pat Gray is in our LDS homeschooling group.

I liked him better fat and slobby than his sleek metrosexual look but I'm delighted that he's taking on the border cause. I live in Texas and the problems that illegal immigration causes are wide-spread....widespread as in wide-spread panic!

EWL-I'm officially insanely jealous!

I know about the immigration thing. My parents live on the border in AZ, and it's crazy.

I think if you don't live in the American SW, you can empathize, but you really can't understand the scope of what's going on down there.

It's not an exaggeration to say it's getting close to panic level.

Good for you! I wouldn't have ever noticed. Unless someone pointed it out, then it would have bugged me to death. So, kudos!
