Because I just want to impeach somebody today.
I'll take anybody. At this point it doesn't matter who.

Running My Mouth, Among Other Things
I love my running partner. Kami and I have been running together for about 5 years now, which I figure puts her somewhere near the required time frame for sainthood. We run together lots in the spring/summer/fall, and less in the winter when there's snow on the ground. In fact, today is the first time we've gotten together since before Christmas.
What you have to know about Kami (and I'm sure you've already deduced) is that she's a much better person than I am.
She collects food at work for canned food drives. She uses aluminum water bottles, for crying out loud. She knows all my children and what they're up to, and actually asks about them, even though she's only met them once or twice during our 5 years.... probably because I talk about them ad-nauseum when I run. See one of the major advantages of a running partner is the free therapy sessions. You can just TALK and Talk and talk!! Oh baby, we can always find something to talk about.
Her work,
my bakery,
her in-laws,
my family,
her vacations,
my family,
her new fantastic exercise plan,
my family.
Yeah, my life is a plethora of scintillating topics. Shut up.
Anyway, there are two things we rarely talk about. religion and politics. She knows how I feel about both, and I have NO idea how she feels about either. Usually I say a thing or two, and she stays totally quiet, which I take to mean that she'd rather push a garbage truck uphill at this point in the run then discuss these taboo topics with someone as opinionated as I am.
So about halfway in to our 4 mile run this morning, I sort of forgot myself and started in on the stimulus package. You know, how we could really use a stimulus plan that would actually stimulate the economy? And then I remembered who I was talking to. Because she got really quiet all of a sudden.
And in a sort of surprising turn of events, she started talking about it, and reminded me that there are a lot of people in the country who have actual hope that this thing can work, and who really need to hang on to that hope, because their lives are going downhill fast.
Wow. And a short - very short- political conversation ensued. It was interesting.
I will say though, that as soon as I remembered who I was talking to, I immediately changed the topic. Because, you know, I can hash political garbage with anybody. But finding a truly amazing running partner is a once in a lifetime deal, and after 5 years I do NOT want her to change her mind about running with me. And frankly I'd rather talk about the Biggest Loser anyway.
(That girl probably goes home every day and resolves that THIS TIME she's really gonna find someone else to run with. Sadly for her, there aren't a whole lot of women willing to freeze their heinies off in the pre-dawn winter hours, so I think I'm relatively safe. For now.)
But after I got home and thought about it a bit, I decided that since she is really a much better person than I am, maybe it wouldn't kill me to rethink my position a little bit. What's done is done, right? And because the alternative is so horrible, what would it cost me to hope the dang thing actually works?

Not a Political Blog! But Still...
If you read me at all, you already know my politics. And usually I try to more or less keep it off the blog. Because we both know that if you want to read about politics, well, frankly there are more articulate bloggers than I. (Wait, what?)
But this made me just a little bit crazier than I usually am.
Ummmmm, I care.
If you care? Here's where you can get the email addresses you need. You can still make a difference, and every single email really does count.
It doesn't have to be long or wordy. Just make your opinion known TODAY as they're now retooling this legislation.
You can even copy mine!
Do you care?

Senator ( )(Except it will probably carry more weight if you put in your own senator, name and town.)
I care greatly about the huge spending bill that is making its way through legislation. As your constituent, I ask you to do everything you can to minimize or veto this bill. America needs to solve their problems through the private sector, and not through bigger government.
Sincerely,

Depends on How You Look At It
Oh yeah, I'm out of town visiting my parents, and as usual my plans for posting while I'm gone have flown away like little unicorns on the breeze, leaving me wondering if they ever really existed, or if I just dreamed them. (the unicorns, not my parents...)
Also, I'm pretty tired, so I don't really care that that sentence probably made no sense.
I'll be back to (*cough*, *cough*) normal next week, and I'll look forward to seeing whether or not you survived the election. Last night after the results came in I was frankly a little worried about the world ending during the night, but the sun really did come up this morning.
I'm still trying to decide if that's the good news or the bad.

Political Randomness
I'm so over this election. Pleeeeeeeze just let it be over with. Usually I have a pretty high tolerance for this stuff, but it's getting out of hand. The name calling and the things people are stooping to are ridiculous. I've gotten to the point where I'm bringing my McCain signs in the house at night, because I'm tired of replacing them.
I don't even think Tina Fey is funny anymore. It's just old.

And if you're an Obama supporter, does it worry you at all that you're on the same side as my across-the-street neighbor? Because quite honestly, just that fact all by itself would make me rethink my stance on just about anything. Not that I'd change my mind, necessarily, but oh boy, I'd think about it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My eyelashes are getting shorter. Is this a sign of getting older that no one ever told me about? Really, I used to have long and thick eyelashes, and I noticed the other day that it takes more and more mascara. I'm beginning to sympathize with Tammy Fay. If you're too young to know Tammy Fay Baker, well, that's probably one bit of pop culture you can do without.
I just threw that last one in so you'd know how really really random my brain is today. Just in case you hadn't already picked up on that.
oh, and thanks to Sarah and Jen for the fantastic award! I love it!
I should probably go vote today or tomorrow. I just have to figure out a couple of the amendments. I will read them, but I can usually tell which ones I'm voting for just by seeing the name of the groups making the commercials. I'm against pretty much anything supported by the teacher's union, protectchoicedotorg, and my across-the-street neighbor.
If the politics topic is tiring me, you'd think I'd quit talking about it, wouldn't you? But I do want to say that I am inspired by all the California bloggers who are using their blogs to take a stand for Prop 8. I know it's not the popular thing to do right now, (see here) but it's important. If you're interested, there's a great discussion going on over at Welcome to My Soapbox. Be sure to read the posts over the past week or so to get caught up.
Politics Are Ugly
It's getting ugly over here.
Last week, a couple of McCain lawn signs went up in my neighborhood, which inspired me to get my own McCain sign.
Apparently those things are like congress bailout plans. They're everywhere, but actually nailing one down is nigh impossible. My friend Q and I had to go down to our republican hq and practically beg for them. Since last week they've changed their groveling policy, and are giving a sign to anyone who's willing to go down there and make 8 phone calls, which I think is a better plan, but honestly! You'd think they'd be passing them out on street corners around here, the way things are looking.
I live on a corner, and I proudly jammed those little prongs into my lawn last week, only to watch the neighbors' kids run over the sign with their little motorized two-seater car. Lovely.
(Really, I never wanted to be the mean old lady who doesn't like the neighbor kids, but they are constantly running through my flowerbeds and they drive me nuts. Also there are about 300 of them that live on our street.)
(I'm blaming it on the fact that politics make people mean.)
That was when the email hit the fan. Apparently our Vietnamese rooster friend across the street has never connected the fact that The Brain is the HOA president, because he sent a raging email demanding that the McCain signs be taken down throughout the neighborhood, especially that bent one on the corner which is such an eyesore.
He got a polite email reply that informed him that Colorado law specifically allows political signs for 45 days before the election.
Even though he thinks it's incredibly tacky, he then threatened to go get his own Obama signs. Which I would LOVE! It would make some new targets for his kids and their little car. At least they might play on their own lawn for a change.
(See?? Why would I say that? Clearly it's the politics talking.)
Anyway, Obama signs are apparently a little easier to come by than McCain signs, because they've appeared throughout my neighborhood in large numbers in the past couple of days.
Rooster Man does not have one in his yard, yet. I guess he might have caught on to that target thing.
I've considered going door to door to people who don't have signs and asking them if they'd like one, but I think our neighborhood is polarizing itself quite nicely already, thank-you.
So this morning I did the only thing I could do. I one-upped everyone by putting out my American Flag. Hey. I'm not above using the flag as a weapon. I've LONG been the only house on my street that ever displays a flag on patriotic days.
And I'm nothing if not patriotic.
I Love this Woman!
Finally! Someone who will advocate for families. I LOVE that she's not part of the establishment. Is she perfect? Nope. But I think she's as close as we've come in a very long time.
If the link doesn't work, see it here.
If you missed The Speech last night, try to find it and watch it somewhere. It was out-of-the-park amazing.
But my very favorite part? Sarah Palin's daughter "taking care of" her little brother during the speech.
Adorable.
If you want to disagree, fine with me, but let's keep it nice, mkay?
The big debate is going on here.
This is NOT a Weight Loss Blog
Seriously. And I'm going to get off that topic now.
Well, maybe just one thing. Don't tell anyone, but I hopped on the scale at the gym this morning. I promised myself I wouldn't weigh again until Monday. But the scale was there, and I was there, and well, you do the math.
No! I'll do the math and tell you that I'm down 3 pounds. Thank-you twice a day workouts.
Shhh-- don't tell.
Now I'm going to be really mad on Monday if it's the same, aren't I?
Oh well, I'll let you know. Right here on my Not A Weight Loss Blog.
Also, this is NOT A Political Blog.
But I did attend a Team Mitt meeting last night and it was pretty exciting. I really think he's the guy to set the economy straight. And I'm more than a little worried about the economy. And securing the border. That's all I'm saying.
Informal poll - who are you thinking about voting for and what is your biggest issue?
We can do this without being nasty and name calling, right?
Today I Changed History
Well, at least the way history is portrayed. I got the City Secretary of Laredo, Texas to say he would change their coat of arms to be historically accurate.
What the heck? And why would I care? Here's the scoop:
Today I was listening to my BFF Glenn Beck, when someone on the show mentioned that on the Laredo, Texas website, the Mexican flag is posted above the US flag. Which really irked me.
So I went to the site, and sure enough, there it was.
I would love to show it to you, but I can't get it to download big enough that you can see it.
Anyway if you squint your eyes, it's there. Or go here.
So I wrote the City Secretary a polite letter asking if he was aware of the protocol. He sent a form letter to all those who wrote in, describing the coat of arms, and the history of the flags that have flown over Laredo at one time or another.
But as I followed his chronology, I noted that the flags were out of order. So my opinion would be to either put them in order, or put the US flag at the top.
This is the email I got back.
So, wow!? Right?
I'm sort of feeling like a US senator tonight. I can say I corrected an injustice for millions of people... When in reality, nobody will notice a dang thing.
Me and Rudy
I found this Candidate Calculator over at the source of all good (Glenn Beck website).
(That's where I found the link, not who sponsors the calculator. I didn't really check to see who sponsors the calculator. Is that a problem?)
It takes about 10 minutes and you can figure out which candidate for president is most in line with your views. I never would have guessed mine:
Who would have guessed? I also matched 85% with Fred Thompson. Not that I've decided who I'm voting for by any stretch... just that it was interesting.
P.S. to Rudy - go back to the shorter haircut. The buzz cut was practical and fun. Very endearing!
P.S. to everyone else - if you do this, of course I'm dying to know....
