I read an article the other day that said over 90% of all blogs never get one single comment.

This morning, I'm pretty sure I figured out why.

It's the stupid word verification thingy.

If you have this on your comment page, won't you reconsider? Maybe it's because I've never been spammed by a crawler, but I'm beginning to have less and less patience for typing in those smushed-together letters, only to be told I typed wrong, and I should do it AGAIN.

I gave up on two different comments this morning, after word verifying twice, and then running out of patience.

I realize that by putting up this post, I am inviting karma, and every web crawler out there to my blog, but I can't help it.
AND DON'T TELL ME TO GET GLASSES. I'm having a little trouble with the reality of the aging process right now as it is. Dealing with some gray hair and hunting for a new age-defying cream is all I can handle right now.

Please.
I beg you.

Is it just me?

I have to admit it took me the longest time to figure out why some of the comments I made didn't appear on someone's blog--I did the work verification thing and didn't wrong and thought my post was saved!!! Pretty stupid, eh? Most of the time I can't get them right--even WITH my glasses!!! I wish there was a way you could make them bigger so I could see them!

Part of the problem is that a 'j' looks like an 'l', which also looks like an 'i'.....

Hate word verifications. Even with my contacts in and I KNOW I'm getting it right, stupid blogger says I'm not. Frustrating.

I don't have word verification. You should be spending all your time commenting on my blog.

I hateth the WORD VERIFICATION! Once mine said Fcukjm and it offended me! That was when I removed mine from my blog.

I didn't have word verification on my blog in the beginning...but you would NOT believe all the spam comments I got. I spent too much time going back and deleting them from my blog...

I don't think I have word verification on my blog any more for the same reason... I hate doing it myself. Why would I make others go through the trouble? I do have to think twice before I type some of those things... and they seem to be getting longer :(

hi rand,
i'm with you sister!

i hate hate hate word verification, too. sometimes if i can't really make it out, i just hit jibberish because i know it will just shoot out another batch. i wish nobody would use it who i like to visit.

wow, 90% of bloggers never get one comment? wow. they aren't in our community then randi cause we always get little comment friends coming by to visit us. and blogstat is fun, too cause i get to see that a WHOLE bunch more people come by and read parts of my blog who didn't comment. just makes me feel loved to know i was visited. but i love the comments, too, when they are left for my viewing pleasure.

great day hon,
kathleen :) xoxo

When we were on blogger, and didn't have word verification, the spam was unbelievable, and often quite graphic in nature. So then we got word verification, and it cut down on the spam, but people hated it.

The solution, of course, is to get off blogger, and switch to wordpress or typepad, with askismet to block spam. So much better.

i love having my bloggy on wordpress now instead of blogger. wordpress has this spam seeker thingy and it tells me if some garbage site is trying to link to me and i get to say yes or no to kill it or not. i like that!

death to word verification! ha.

big hug,
kathleenybeany :)

I turned off word verification a long time ago and haven't gotten a single spam comment. (but I'm not as big as MMW obviously) Word verification is a pain in the patoot, but sometimes a necessary pain.

It is a pain but I put it on mine after getting a weird spam comment. Maybe I should take it off or maybe I should keep it just to get on some nerves..hehehe :o)

Hello justrandi-thanks for commenting on my blog and the advice to change the word verification thingy-took your advice.....i have had issues with the same thingy and finally figured out how to change it. You have changed my life-thanks!

I had it off for awhile, but then got a spam, so turned it back on.

So what you're saying is that if I turn off word verification I will get more comments? Ok then, I will try it, but if I get spammed and that's all I get for comments, then I'm gonna come looking for you!!

I am always really careful about making sure that I am correctly typing the word verification, and half the time it tells me I'm wrong. So Many times I have lost the comment all together. I think that's what frustrates me the most. Just today I tried 4 times to leave a comment on the blog of a nice lady who commented on my blog. It never worked.
Yes, word verification bugs me too!

I hate Word Verification too, but the very day I took it off, I got a ridiculous spam comment that was about two pages long! So I put it back. Hope you don't quit commenting to me, because I ♥ your comments! :)

I call it the I.Q. Verification.

I fail it 80% of the time :)

I had to get rid of the word thing because they got longer and longer, (who wants to try and type fdjwklfrewofperjfkleqwfkeqf???) and the fonts were a nightmare.

I still have people telling me that they can't comment. Can't figure it.

I'll keep commenting here :)

I am here. Sorry I don't comment more but I always come for a visit. I too have been in denial about my sight. I thought I was forgetting how to read, spell and write. At this point the glasses are a relief not a burden.

I've noticed that when I get a HUGE word verification that isn't legible...I just hit preview and another one comes up. Sometimes, it's a pain...but I'm lazy that way. ;)
