Random (to me) Holidays

Being lds and all, sometimes I wonder about other religious holidays. I don't think so much about the religious symbolism of the holidays as much as just the traditions and practices you can see from afar. Hannakah, for example, looks like so much fun, because you get to light all those candles. Ramadan, not so much. One fast Sunday per month is more than enough for me, thank-you very much. I have no idea what to think of Palm Sunday, Assumption Day, Yom Kippur, or numerous other holidays that show up on my calendar.

So yesterday my calendar said Fat Tuesday. In case you were wondering, Fat Tuesday is not actually a reference to the Tuesday after your Super Bowl Party. And the fact that it worked out that way is supposedly a "coincidence". Unfortunately in this house it was more of a descriptive term than a traditional holiday.

And then don't forget it was also Super Tuesday.

So now I'm just calling it Super Fat Tuesday.

(But all is not lost. Since I really don't have any idea how much I weigh, and my scale seems to recalibrate itself randomly, I just set it to what I thought I weighed. I feel so much better now, don't you? )

Now about Ash Wednesday, which as it turns out? Not a reference to my cooking.

I like the idea of making your scale work for you.

Yeah, I don't know anything about those holidays.

I was at a party last night, and a friend said she had forgotten that it was "shrove Tuesday" and I was WHAT???? (It's also called Pancake Tuesday--which sounds a whole lot better to me ; )

I want to know where you bought that scale!!!

Not that the scale comments aren't entertaining....but when are you going to get an actual scale? :) lol "you funny"

Fat Tuesday is "Mardi Gras". It's the day before Lent. It's basically a day to party before you give up everything for the next forty days.

As I understand it, though I am sure you didn't want a real answer :) is you fatten yourself up on all those naughty indulgences and then on ash Wednesday you go to mass, the Priest puts some ash on your forehead as promise to give something up :) how's that for an explanation? All I know is that during this time in Brazil was crazy! So many parties! Ok I am just a babbling comment fool today sorry!

I have a scale that I have to readjust...

So do you really burn all your food?

Today is Fat Wednesday for me...I made a turkey with the trimmings for Lauren's birthday lunch, then her friend brought over scrumptious cookies, and I stuffed myself silly. First time I've done that since New Year's. There's barely room in there to breathe...ugh! :S

Every day is Fat Tuesday in this house...
I like the scales that you can adjust here and there... mine has decided to automatically add 3 lbs. every time I get on...

As long as the holiday revolves around food I am all for it.
