Thanks for the link to that post. In Seminary this morning we talked about Jeremiah and the difference between true prophets and false prophets. Had some great discussion.
I loved that post! Especially after seeing the news where a lady from Texas was interviewed saying "They just need to send them all back to Salt Lake City. They say they're different, but they're all just the same" I'd like to send that post to her.
Hmmm... The post at that link is o.k. Ish. ...But the comments leave me shaking my head - going on and on about how WE'RE NOT LIKE THAT, we're not strange, or evil, or wanting other wives.
But, um, Joseph Smith did. And Brigham Young did. A lot of prophets did. Most of my ancestors did. And the commenters seem to miss that when they go on and on about how weird and strange and NOT LIKE US, the FLDS are. Yeah, theyre not like us. But theyre like the prophets were at one point in time. So put down the rocks, people.
Remember how people were all intolerant and evil and drove the mormons out of Nauvoo and Jackson and everywhere else?
Pot, meet kettle.
(And Randi, I'm not meaning YOU or YOUR commenters, obviously. I know that isn't what you are getting out of it. People get tired of the misidentification, I know it. I just think its sad when we demean people who believe pretty much exactly what Joseph Smith taught. True, they fell away and apostasized, and our church no longer teaches polygamy (obviously), but I don't know that we should be so quick to label the FLDS as freakish, evil monsters.)
Um. Sorry for the threadjack. Uh, ignore the crazy ranting lady.
And in case any of you think maybe I'm a closet polygamist or something - if polygamy ever DID came back? I'd be on the first bus over to the Presbyterians.

Not much, Kristen.
