Flattery Will Get You Everywhere

Which is the better compliment?

"Those pants look great on you!"

or

" You sure look great in those pants!"

I would gladly take either one. They both would make me smile!

Both would make me feel happy, but the second one sounds even better - it compliments the PERSON rather than the PANTS.

I think the first is a better compliment, because it's saying that "you" make the pants look good.

The second one implies that you didn't look great before, but now that you're wearing those incredible, miracle producing pants, you look great.

Where can I get me some pants like that?

I think a better compliment would be "You look great! I especially like those pants!"

Well, that you made me think about it, they both sound offensive. Thanks for that. :)

Yeah, I would take both. Of course, I'd rather hear "Man, you are smokin' hot!" unless it's from some random stranger, and then I would freak and break out the mace...

I'd be VERY happy with either one! :D

The ones I'd be WARY of:

"Cute pants!" (meaning the pants are cute, but not necessarily the person wearing them!)

"Hey, you got new pants!" (Meaning they are searching for SOMETHING nice to say, and that's the best they could come up with!) Haha! :D

I'm like Nancy! I'd love either comment... don't want to hear anything like...
"Those pants are so unique!"
or
"What a fun color"
or
"You have such a sweet spirit no matter what you wear" ;)

I like them both... but great pondering thought for the day.

The latter- the first is a compliment to the pants.

I think the first is saying you normally don't look good, but in those pants you do look good. The latter is saying YOU look good! But it really depends on who is saying it, if it's happy hour, and what light your standing in. I know we can never just take a compliment!

To an acquaintance of the opposite gender (ie, most of the sisters at church and co-workers) I would say "Those are really cute pants!" to avoid any misconfusion of my intent.

To a close friend of the opposite gender I would say "You look GREAT! Those are really cute pants!"

So you see, it can be the same compliment, depending on who is delivering it.

BTW, to a close friend of the same gender, I would say "Dude, new pants."

Kind of like Jill I'm a fan of, "You make those pants look good!" Although that does carry the implication that typically the pants do not look good on their own.

So, yup, I guess I have to just expand on Jill's second comment, "You look great as always! I especially like those pants! Where'd you get them?"

The former. To me it implies that I'm making the pants look good!

BWAH! How about skipping the pants, and just say, "I'm glad to see you." or "I'm glad you're here."

Either is good, but I think the 2nd would make me feel even better.

Just de-lurking to say hello. Found you over on Mormon Mommy Blogs!

Wow! My vote is neither, they both both imply that your beauty today depends on pants! I guess for most of us that would be true. THANK HEAVEN FOR PANTS!!!

Most definately the first one. Because...maybe they are thinking, "Heavens! I am so glad you finally bought something to make you look good." Who knows.

But at any rate...I have never received either one of those compliments...so what do I know. haha!

I'd say B because it's about you, not the pants.

Either one would make me smile. ;-)

I think I like the 2nd one better, but I'll take either. :)

Just coming out of lurking. I like the second one better - but I agree with some other posters, just saying, "You look great!" is the best comment.

I would take either. Who doesn't love a compliment???

I vote for, "Wow, you have such a cute butt! I don't know if it's the pants or what...but you're lookin' good!"

I actually said that to my bishop's wife not too long ago. She said it was the best compliment she's gotten in a long, long time.

I'd take either one, too. :D

Mmmm, I think I would like both, but the second one does sound a little bit better :)

Which one did you get? ;)

What Jill said. Cuz she's smart.

The first one is fine for a friend to say. The second is best coming from my hubby.

Honestly, I would take either one. Compliments are sometimes few and far between. :)

i think the "you look great in those pants." but i'd say i'd take either over the...those pants make you look funny.
