GamePlay

Today's post started out as a game. The idea was to randomly choose an unfinished post from your draft folder, polish it up, and post it.

I learned two things from this game.

  1. There's a reason why these posts are still in my draft folder.
  2. Apparently it is unusual for bloggers to collect drafts like Nancy Pelosi collects signatures for her newest spending bill.
I had no idea it was even possible to just write a post every day and send it out there. I do that sometimes, but I'm usually not really pleased with the result. No, I prefer writing them up and then reading them obsessively before I post. (How many times I have to read it first usually depends on how strongly I feel about it.)

(Or how soon I get sick of it.)

Oh well.

Here are the people who make me feel like less of a freak -- because they had one or two drafts and agreed to play along today!

Here's Dave's draft#4 at I've Been Boo-Mood
Apparently Loralee from Life With the Carey Gang also generated #4.

I'm guessing you both had exactly 4 posts in your draft box, right? Never mind. Don't tell me.

And here's Heather from The Extraordinary Ordinary, coming in with her promised draft #16.

(I know a couple more friends were planning to play. Just let me know if you did and I'll link you up!)

SO below you have draft #40 in my folder, The Mayo Clinic, originally started 10/24/07.

yeah, i did have 4 drafts. but my technique is to jot down an idea, email it to my drafts folder, then finish it up later.

I just don't have that many ideas.

I usually don't have a ton of drafts, but right now I do. I'm so disorganized and scattered, sheesh.

I did plan to play along and now I'm terrified. Because the one that was in my drafts that was chosen for me is controversial, I'm not sure I ever would have posted it? But I did say I'd play along when you mentioned this....

It's just sitting there, waiting for me to push publish...I can't decide!!!

You know...I must be crazy because I never even THINK about leaving stuff in drafts. I publish a post and then obsessively edit, edit and edit some more. So, at the end of the day, people who read my blog through a reader? They only get the first, terrible version. oh well...

I do usually like to have all my posts written the day before, but I didn't have any when you did your post, and I still don't. I plan to write my WEdnesday's post today sometime.

OK, I posted mine. :)

Oh, and I did some work on it, I don't think it's controversial anymore...I know, boring! :)

You are such a model to all of us to go over your posts so they are perfect before we see them.

I'm such a slacker;)

I tried looking thru my drafts once and most of the time I was like, "Huh? What the heck was I talking about??"

I'm starting to think there might be something wrong with me, I don't have ANY drafts. Maybe the Mayo Clinic has some room!

My problem is I'm not that picky with my posts (and I KNOW--IT SHOWS!!!)

AH man! I didn't realize we had to actually do all that :(

My blog post count is something like 665. I think I've only actually published about 550 of those though because I'm OCD about what I'll post.

I know it's ridiculous. It's not as though I'm a superstar blogger raking in ad revenue. I keep thinking that I'll just post a simple picture but then I always, ALWAYS, have to write a bunch of goofy stuff under it. And then I edit it a million times.
