Wo Oh Ooh

Every now and then I wonder if I'm crossing the line between trying to stay youthful, and being, you know, a grown-up.

I have no illusions that I'm 16 again, but I do try to keep up with what's going on. And believe me there's a fine line there. I don't think I've ever seen Mimi as embarrassed as the day I showed up at the school to pick her up, singing a song that had been stuck in my head.

"If ya liked it, then ya shoulda putta ring on it..."

She turned about 5 shades of pink - - - right before she went purple. And nobody was even within earshot except me and her.

Just for the record-- it's not like I got out of the car in front of the school and tried to do the dance or anything.

I'm just sayin'. It's a hard balancing line. Also it's hard to keep that song out of your head. (I hope you sing it in front of your teenager today. Or if you don't have teenagers yet, then your bishop.)

You're welcome.

And just between you and me? I'm totally getting that spanking thing down.

Well, once you have it ALL THE WAY down, I think you should go do it in front of the school.

That song is totally catchy. I dare anyone NOT to sing it after hearing it.

I started singing it as soon as I read the post title. Ahhh, the power of music.

of course, now when I hear it i think of Justin Timberlake in high heels and a leotard.

and now for a bonus comment, listen to this and try not to sing it for a few hours.

Maybe your daughter would like this more?

I get so many hits on my blog from that song, because I used it for one of my titles.

And sometimes, working with at-risk youth all day makes me feel really old.

I wasn't young and "with it" even when I was young, so I have no hope of pulling it off now...

Dave those are hilarious!

I often catch myself singing that too...

I think you should do you own music video and post Randi. PLEASE, I bet Lauren would come help you.

Thanks for putting that song back in my head. I mean, I JUST got rid of it two days ago. :)

Next time she's embarrassed that you're singing it in the privacy of your own car, you definitely should get out and do the dance in front of the world. That'll teach her true embarrassment.

Heather is right!! A JustRandi video of Single Ladies would be You Tube Gold!!!!!

p-p-p-p-poker face, p-p-p-poker face. Lady Gaga gets in my head!!!

I'm so with you on this. But my kids, being 9 and 11, still tolerate the fact that I know what songs are "in" before they do. They rely on me to stock their i-pods, so it's still a necessity. I don't imagine that will last too much longer. :)

Awesome. Just awesome. I now have a song running through my head but the picture of a daughter being mortified is worth it. I too hope to cause purple of the face someday for my kids. :) It's only fair, my mom did it to me....

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who sings teeny-bopper songs!

Apparently I don't have this problem, as I have no idea what song you're talking about. Sigh. It's such a burden being uncool.

hahaha, I can't wait to be the pinnacle of my child's embarrassment! We are already very embarrassing, but he's not even one yet - so I guess we're still just amusing to watch. For example: we decorate the Christmas tree to Christmas songs played by a Celtic band and then dance jigs to the music when we're finished. We think we are awesome.

Luckily my nieces and nephews think we are cool. But then again, they don't know about the Christmas jigs...

My mom use to honk the horn and yell out the windows, all the way from the school to the house, so I got real use to the floor of the car-- oh and it didn't change until I was married. CRAZY is a good word in our family!

I think I could skip going to the gym if I would just do those moves every day ; ) Believe me all I'd have to do is make a suggestion to Kyle that I was going to be singing in the halls of school and any wish would be his command.

Do you think you could get on the next talent night at the school.

That song doesn't bother me as much now that I'm not pregnant, but I had my moments before.

The YW think it's great that I'll let them listen to the radio on the way to activities, so if I sing along - well they tolerate it. They just don't want to hear MoTab which was the option before me.

Right now, my kid doesn't care what I sing as long as I feed him.

Oh how I can totally relate to this post! If I do any kind of singing...even when no one is in earshot but me and my daughter...oh how I get the evil look or quick nudge to stop it!

Have you seen the video for that song on VH1? LOL You are so funny.

Ah, parents embarrassing their kids by singing, it's classic and timeless. I read somewhere that Alexa Joel (Billy's daughter) was overhear begging him not to sing while they were shopping or something. This is a guy who people pay hundreds of dollar to hear sing.

But waht are parents for if not to embarrass their kids? I say sing out sista!

Put me on the list of uncool people who have no clue what the song is....I'll have to think of other ways to embarrass my kids.

Does the Brain know you have the spanking thing down? Because last time I checked you said he doesn't read your blog, and I think he would be very interested to know that. Very. Interested.

The real kicker will be when you dress as Beyonce and THEN show up at school singing...

My four year old sings this ALL THE TIME.

It disturbs me. Even though I like the song.

Randy! You are seriously hip...I love that song and that Beyonce sure can dance...and I don't mind saying I've spent a time or two in front of the mirror practicing it as well.
