My Dilemma

It's no secret.  I'm not a night person.

But I really! Really! REALLY!  want to go to the midnight showing of New Moon with my girlfriends who actually invited me, even though they never invite me to late night stuff anymore, because I rarely go, because I get really! Really! REALLY! cranky after about 10 pm, because all I want to do is find a place to be horizontal.

I keep thinking I'll just say yes, and then try to take a nap in the evening before I go.  Yeah, that will work.
Not.

Is it a pipe dream?

( OK, I just looked up the phrase "pipe dream" to make sure I was using it correctly, and apparently, the phrase is associated with opium smoking, which is not at all how I meant it.  But now that I think about it, the thought of me actually staying awake in the dark, in a cushy chair until 3 in the morning sounds more like a "pipe dream" than  - you know- REALITY.)

Maybe a Red Bull? Just this once?

if it was a meth pipe dream, you would have no trouble staying up. however, it may be tough to stay in the seat :-)

i say go, armed with several two liters of Diet Coke and a few kilograms of dark chocolate.

take a big purse

I am just going to wait.. that way all of the teenage girls that babysit my kids will have already seen and it be free to babysit.
I am so excited!!!

I won't be going to the midnight showing. Instead my mom and my sister and I will be going to the earliest showing the next morning when all the teenagers are at home sleeping because they stayed up so late the night before. That way we can watch it without all the screaming when the guys show up on the screen (well, except for OUR screaming of course).

5 hour energy drink from the gas station. I tried it recently on a long drive and it helped me stay awake, but didn't make me shaky or nervous like drinks with large amounts of caffeine. Just a suggestion

and jjstringham has a great point.

i'm currently trying to convince nat to go with me to the 10am show the next day too :-)

Belieeeeeve me. If I thought I could convince them to go the next morning, I would SO do it.

How did I get to be friends with a bunch of night owls? Or maybe it's just that everyone's a night owl but me!

I have trouble staying awake during movies that start at 7 PM, so midnight showings are just HORRIBLE for me! But it's so fun to be there with my girlies, I just ignore the fact that caffeine does bad things to me, and I chug down Dr. Pepper all night! It works magic! :D

Go! Here's what you do: take a mini nap early in the evening, (don't do it at night or you won't wake up enough for the movie) and buy some seriously good treats to snack on/keep you awak during the movie. Do it!

Cameron and I went to Twilight the day after the showing...we went at a bad time I think...it was tough to watch it with all the teeny-bopper girls screaming every time Edward came on! Hopefully they'll have gotten it out of their system for this movie!! I say go, and bring your diet coke!

You used the phrase "pipe dream" correctly. I grew up with that phrase, and my parents DEFInitely weren't Opium smokers. In fact, I never have heard that associated with the phrase.
I am not a night owl, either. My body clock is set at 5:45 am to 10:30 or so pm. I went to the midnight showing of Twilight, with all 3 of my daughters, ages 22, 15, and 11. THEY all stayed awake, of course. I was OK until all my popcorn and candy was gone. Then I was MISerable, trying to stay awake for about 1/2 hour, then gave up and went to sleep. When I saw it on video, I realized that I didn't miss much.
They tried to talk me in to buying advance tickets for the midnight showing of New Moon, but I put my foot down. I want to have FUN this time, not be miserable. Maybe I can talk them in to a matinee???
:~D

loralee, if you let the gang skip school on the 20th i bet you can talk them into a matinee :-)

nap + caffeine + more caffeine + movie theater popcorn + new moon = a mom who might stay awake for the whole thing, but watch out, kids, the next morning!

I am so not a night person and will not go because I am a party pooper old lady who would rather be awake when she watches a movie.

Now, excuse me, I will go down a few Geritol and be right back

We are two peas in a pod. As soon as 10 hits, it's like a switch flips and I am a veeeerrrry unpleasant person to be around. And I don't talk. Unless it's to say something snarky. Because somehow I'm very witty and cruel at night. Poor husband.

So, I would just do it. Who knows - you might fall asleep in your chair during the movie.

There is just something about being with your friends, doing something kind of juvenile, all pumped out on soda and popcorn that somehow keeps you awake!
I know I was really worried about it last year but it was no problem and so this year I am really looking forward to that midnight movie!!

Just say "Yes" you only live once :D

I couldn't do it; it'd take me two days just to recover. But that's just me. However, you gotsta see this with some good girlfriends. Maybe you could go with some other friends who share your schedule more(?)

All I'm hoping is that this one has better acting, producing, writing, and makeup. I don't think that should be too hard; it can only go up.

I could never stay awake and if I could I wouldn't enjoy it. So I'm going with Becky on a Saturday morning when her friend in Parker rented the theater for a special showing - but C won't go because it's at 8:00 A.M.! Big baby! She can stay awake all night but hates getting up in the AM.
AND I didn't know the teeny boppers scream! GAG. I'd rather wait than be annoyed. That's how it is when you're old.

I say,caffeinate yourself and go!!

We are so happy you are coming with us!! I just wouldn't be the same without you! (how do I know that do you suppose?) Just pretend you are blogging and you will be able to stay awake!

I would like to see this one... I think. New Moon was probably my favorite... even though I wasn't much of a Twilight fan.
I don't know what to tell you about the midnight showing. I have a hard time staying up that late... I know I would probably crash - no matter how good the movie was. But that's me...

Some tips from an old truck driver.

1. Take a nap but no longer than an hour.

2. Take some sun flower seeds with you (its hard to sleep when your involved in the process of shelling seeds).

3. stay away from caffiene till your at the theater.

4. try the Five Hour energy if you take any kind of energy drink, the others have sugar which lead to crash.

5. enjoy

A nap during the day will do the trick--take it from an old lady. I can't remember the last time I went to a midnight showing, I think it was one of the Lord of the Rings movies. It was a lot of fun--until the next day--then the kids REALLY WISHED I HADN'T GONE ; )

Do it--it will make great blog fodder ; )

Yeah, the lack of sleep is a big deterrent for me, but more importantly, I don't think that I could handle all the screaming teenagers. I mean, maybe if I wasn't sleep deprived, I could handle it, but definitely not if I'm too tired. I wouldn't enjoy the movie. I think I'll go in the middle of the day on the 20th. That way I'll enjoy it, and actually be able to remember it!

There is something appealing about going with the crowd though...getting wrapped up in the excitement of all of it.....yeah. I think I'll sleep. My kids will thank me for getting a good night's sleep.

I think you should go!! It would probably be fun! (=^_^=)

you should totally go. It will make the movie better. There is something about all of the giggling excitement for the midnight show that makes the acting seem much better. lot of people gave you great advice!

I have never loved a movie I saw at midnight. And I have only gone to midnight showings of movies I thought I'd really love. My advice....If you go, do it for the company, and not the movie. Then go see it the next day when you can really enjoy it. (Hey. When you get up at 5am to run it is OK to be tired...wiped out...zombie like at 10pm!---Or maybe that is just what I tell myself.)
