Every October and April, the LDS church holds a worldwide televised conference.
It's always uplifting, and never fails to inspire me to do better. I also find that when I listen to these people speak with my heart open it's as if they are talking just to me. I hear answers to my problems, and find comfort in their stories and examples.
In short, it's several hours of time that really rests my soul, and then strengthens it.
Anyway, I'm always looking for The Quote. If you're a regular listener, you know what I mean. Usually there are one or two particular gems that are meaningful enough to speak to your heart, and concise enough that you could print it up in vinyl lettering and put it in a little niche of a wall somewhere that you will see it often.
Soo watch or listen to conference here,
Saturday and Sunday, October 3-4, 2009
beginning at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. MDT both days, and each lasts about 2 hours. Hopefully you can catch at least an hour here or there.
....and send in your entries for The Quote.
You can enter as many quotes as you like, but only one quote per comment. And as always, the first person to send in the winning quote (read: The quote I like best) will win a fabulous prize!
Previous winners are:
Laura with
"The future is as bright as your faith"
by Thomas S Monson
by Thomas S Monson
and
Happy Mommy with
"Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved."
also by President Monson.
also by President Monson.
I'm sensing a theme there. No the winning quote does NOT have to be from Pres Monson.
Anybody want to play!?

What a great idea! That will help make sure I pay a little more attention and don't fall asleep :)
Ooh-that guarantees I'll listen extra well:)
This is a super idea Randi - I'm in!
What's the prize? Just want to see if it's worth listening to conference..... ;-)
But by the time I think,"I gotta write that down" and get something to write with, I can't remember the exact quote. I'll just wait to see what everybody else submits :)
Ok, I'm just hoping to NOT fall asleep. The last three conferences, two being pregnant and the third with a newborn have found me sleeping on the nice, soft, warm couch.....I'm sure in my subconsious there is "THE" quote. :)
of course.
I'm definitely in--and I always love reading everyone else's favorites.
ENJOY.
I'm in. I'm a General Conference junkie. You may get more quotes from me than you bargained for. :)
I'm in! :D
Ill be listening for myself but not sure Ill remember to post any here.. Just wanted to say I LOVE that second quote posted.
Here are my submissions from Saturday morning
"Express Love and Show it. Bare Testimony and Live it. Be Consistent."
Elder Bednar
"Eternal principles can get lost within good ideas"
President Uchtdorf
"Love ought to be at the center of everything we do."
President Uchtdorf
"What we love determines what we seek. What we seek determines what we think. What we think determines what we do." Pres. Uchtdorf
(I might have messed up the end a bit, I was writing a lot during his talk! so good!)
"The first step in walking in righteousness is to try." Pres. Uchtdorf
Way to go Emmy!! You found some GREAT ones!!
"Love should be our walk and our talk."
--Uchtdorf
"No matter who you are or what you may have done, you can always pray."
Pres. Packer
Elder Oaks: "Real love does not support self-destructive behavior."
I would just like to echo Elder Bednar's words that children will not remember any particular FHE lesson or scripture study idea taught, but the important thing is that we are consistent.
Pres. Uchtdorf: The Lord will "shepherd us through times of distress." I found that incredibly comforting--yes, I knew it, but it's nice to be reminded.
I love Elder Anderson's comment that "Repentance always means there is greater happiness ahead."
I wish I had written down every scripture mastery that was quoted--IT WAS AMAZING.
love these! Thank-you so much for sharing them!!
- - and keep them coming!
Elder Packer - "No one is left alone on earth without hope of guidance and redemption."
Not a quote but I loved when President Monson got teary eyed talking about the service done by children in his honor. And the warm fuzzies, so cute!
Any believing Latter-Day-Saint is an optimist.

Please, no empty seats.

We are the Lords hands here on earth, with a mandate to serve.
Pres. Monson
"I give counsel to husbands and wives. Pray for the love which allows you to see the good in your companion. Pray for the love that makes weaknesses and mistakes seem small. Pray for the love to make your companion's joy your own. Pray for the love to want to lessen the load and soften the sorrows of your companion."
Kristen - I loved that too! I'm glad people could write down quotes, we were listening while 3 grandchildren vied for our attention. (And it was fun!)
"I don't want to go back to the past, just back to the past way of looking toward the future." - Ronald Reagan
L. Tom Perry
God always provides safety for the soul.
--Holland
Ok, this one can't necessarily be etched on a plaque for RS craft night (ok, it could; but it'd be kinda weird):
"Policemen and laws can never replace moral values as a means for regulating behavior."
--Christofferson
I just liked that one.
One of my fav's was when Sister Dibb said:
"Get a grip"
I forgot to write down who said this, but I loved it.
"In his own time and way, He gives deliverance...in stages."
Again, I don't know the speaker.
"God does not need us to love Him, but oh, how WE need to love Him."
Last one.
"Selfishmness is the absence of love."
Elder Holland: "the mist of darkness descends on all the travelers--the faithful and the determined as well as the weaker and ungrounded ones. The principle point of the story is that the successful travelers resist all distractions."
Ok, Randi, here goes. Sorry if I repeat. I tried to look through the comments first so I'd cut back a little. :)
"Sometimes the Lord reveals truth to you when you are not actively seeking it." -E. Scott
"If you pray, you can learn to be guided by the spirit in all aspects of your life." E. Scott
"All parents and gospel teachers are messengers from God." - Osguthorpe
"We should create and look for opportunities to bear testimonies and live them." -Bednar (maybe not quoted just right)
"Eternal principles can become lost in the labyrinth of good ideas." -Uctdorf
"Love is truly the defining characteristic of a disciple of Jesus Christ." -Uctdorf
"In the heart of joy, you will find a love of good things, and the greatest of good things is God." -Uctdorf
Can you tell I loved Uctdorf's talk?
"Though we are incomplete, God loves us completely. Though we are imperfect, God loves us perfectly. Though we feel lost and without compass, God's love encompasses us." -Uctdorf
"Try until that which seems difficult becomes possible, and that which seems possible, becomes habit." -Uctdorf
"Your personal knowledge of God ... will bring the greatest joy you will ever have." -Hales
Are you sick of me yet? I'm really not trying to commandeer your post, but I love this stuff.
"Let us always give the best we can in the service of God ... and each day get a little better." -Zeballos
"We must use our agency wisely and follow the enticings of the Spirit." -Packer
"We must rescue and preserve that which is virtuous." -Burton
"Each of us can do something to help someone." --Pres. Monson
Two more, and I'll shut up.
"Societies will struggle in vain ... until sin is denounced as sin." -Christofferson
"If we live His words and keep His commandments, we will survive this time of permissiveness." -Pres. Monson.
(Sigh. We now return you to your regularly scheduled blog post.)
My kids loved the FHE/Family prayer/scripture quote
"He's breathing my air!"
Lol. That was a new one for us.
But he forgot the - nudge, nudge, "wake up, it's your turn to read."
I'm always amazed at how much my kids actually internalize even when I don't think they are listening.
No one said this one yet and I LOVE it!
"Though we are incomplete, God loves us completely".
President Uchtdorf
P.S. I love this idea and am going to do it on my blog today too. Hope you don't mind me borrowing your fun idea.
"Revelation never contradicts doctrine"
Can I just say how much i LOVE this post during conference? I go through and write down all the quotes everyone posts in my journal, because I'm terrible at writing down what the speakers say as the speak. :)
