Conference Cliff Notes

YAY!  I love conference!!

Every October and April, the LDS church holds a worldwide televised conference.

It's always uplifting, and never fails to inspire me to do better. I also find that when I listen to these people speak with my heart open it's as if they are talking just to me. I hear answers to my problems, and find comfort in their stories and examples.

In short, it's several hours of time that really rests my soul, and then strengthens it.

Anyway, I'm always looking for The Quote. If you're a regular listener, you know what I mean. Usually there are one or two particular gems that are meaningful enough to speak to your heart, and concise enough that you could print it up in vinyl lettering and put it in a little niche of a wall somewhere that you will see it often.

Soo watch or listen to conference here,
Saturday and Sunday, October 3-4, 2009
beginning at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. MDT both days, and each lasts about 2 hours. Hopefully you can catch at least an hour here or there.

....and send in your entries for The Quote.

You can enter as many quotes as you like, but only one quote per comment. And as always, the first person to send in the winning quote  (read: The quote I like best)  will win a fabulous prize!

Previous winners are:
Laura with
"The future is as bright as your faith"
by Thomas S Monson

and

 Happy Mommy with
"Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved."
also by President Monson.

I'm sensing a theme there.  No the winning quote does NOT have to be from Pres Monson.
Anybody want to play!?

What a great idea! That will help make sure I pay a little more attention and don't fall asleep :)

But by the time I think,"I gotta write that down" and get something to write with, I can't remember the exact quote. I'll just wait to see what everybody else submits :)

Ok, I'm just hoping to NOT fall asleep. The last three conferences, two being pregnant and the third with a newborn have found me sleeping on the nice, soft, warm couch.....I'm sure in my subconsious there is "THE" quote. :)

of course.

Here are my submissions from Saturday morning

(I might have messed up the end a bit, I was writing a lot during his talk! so good!)

"No matter who you are or what you may have done, you can always pray."

Pres. Packer

Yvonne said...

Elder Oaks: "Real love does not support self-destructive behavior."

I would just like to echo Elder Bednar's words that children will not remember any particular FHE lesson or scripture study idea taught, but the important thing is that we are consistent.

Yvonne said...

Pres. Uchtdorf: The Lord will "shepherd us through times of distress." I found that incredibly comforting--yes, I knew it, but it's nice to be reminded.

Yvonne said...

I love Elder Anderson's comment that "Repentance always means there is greater happiness ahead."

Yvonne said...

I wish I had written down every scripture mastery that was quoted--IT WAS AMAZING.

love these! Thank-you so much for sharing them!!

Elder Packer - "No one is left alone on earth without hope of guidance and redemption."

Not a quote but I loved when President Monson got teary eyed talking about the service done by children in his honor. And the warm fuzzies, so cute!

Pray for the love to make your companion's joy your own. Pray for the love to want to lessen the load and soften the sorrows of your companion."

Kristen - I loved that too! I'm glad people could write down quotes, we were listening while 3 grandchildren vied for our attention. (And it was fun!)

Ok, this one can't necessarily be etched on a plaque for RS craft night (ok, it could; but it'd be kinda weird):

"Policemen and laws can never replace moral values as a means for regulating behavior."
--Christofferson

I just liked that one.

One of my fav's was when Sister Dibb said:

"Get a grip"

The Mom said...

I forgot to write down who said this, but I loved it.

"In his own time and way, He gives deliverance...in stages."

The Mom said...

Again, I don't know the speaker.

"God does not need us to love Him, but oh, how WE need to love Him."

The Mom said...

Last one.

"Selfishmness is the absence of love."

Yvonne said...

Elder Holland: "the mist of darkness descends on all the travelers--the faithful and the determined as well as the weaker and ungrounded ones. The principle point of the story is that the successful travelers resist all distractions."

My kids loved the FHE/Family prayer/scripture quote

"He's breathing my air!"

Lol. That was a new one for us.

But he forgot the - nudge, nudge, "wake up, it's your turn to read."

I'm always amazed at how much my kids actually internalize even when I don't think they are listening.

CB said...

No one said this one yet and I LOVE it!

"Though we are incomplete, God loves us completely".

P.S. I love this idea and am going to do it on my blog today too. Hope you don't mind me borrowing your fun idea.

Can I just say how much i LOVE this post during conference? I go through and write down all the quotes everyone posts in my journal, because I'm terrible at writing down what the speakers say as the speak. :)
